WhatsApp is the most used messaging app with over 2 billion users around the globe. Most of us uses it in our daily lives. Here I discuss with you tops tricks which you might not be aware about WhatsApp.

1. Sending location to Users


Many times we try to meet a person and want to share our location with him. Live location can be sent to them using which the other person can track you. Maximum duration can be 8 hours.

Android: Chat > Specific Chat > Tap on "attach icon" to the left of the 📸 icon> Location > Share Live Location > Select time frame
iOS: Chat > Specific Chat > Tap on "+" icon to the left of the message box > Location > Share Live Location > Select time frame

2. Changing your WhatsApp background


Bored of the default WhatsApp background! Then you can should check different colors theme and custom wallpapers using the settings tab.

Android and iOS: Settings > Chat > Chat Wallpaper >Choose Wallpapers from solid colors, library or gallery.

3. Reduce data usage


Many times we are low on data or we want to save our data pack. Although WhatsApp compresses images and videos still we can save more on data. We can stop automatic videos and images download on cellular network.

Android and iOS: Settings > Data and Storage Usage > Media Auto-Download > Switch to Wi-Fi only to save your data.

4. Formatting options( Bold, italic, strikethrough)


Sometimes we want to emphasize on a particular word or set of words. In that case we use formatting elements like bold, italic, etc to highlight that piece of text.

Android and iOS: * Text here *               For bold
                              _ Text here _              For italic
                              ~  Text here  ~             For Strikethrough

5. Mark a read chat again unread


Read a chat which you wanted to ignore and mistakenly clicked on it. Then this tip will surely help you out. You can make those chats again unread by following some steps and save yourself from replying back.

Android: Long press specific chat > Open Menu > Mark as Unread
iOS: Chats > Swipe left to right > Mark as Unread

6. Enable custom notifications


Annoyed of get frequent WhatsApp notifications from many contacts and not able to figure your most loved ones message. Then you can customize the way notifications are delivered to you. If you want to different notification alert from a particular contact that you change their specific alert tones so that you can distinguish it from other contacts.

Android and iOS: Chats > Specific Chat > Tap on contact name at top > Custom notifications

7. Using WhatsApp on the web

Now you can use WhatsApp on the web as per your desire. You need to go to https://web.whatsapp.com/ or download the desktop app from whatsapp.com/download/ .
Then you need to open WhatsApp on your phone > Click on three dots > Click on WhatsApp Web > Scan the QR code on your desktop or laptop
Now you can use WhatsApp on your phone and PC simultaneously at the same time.

8. Message to an unsaved contact


If you want to message a number but it is unsaved on your mobile then also you can message to it. You need to open the link https://wa.me/91xxxxxxxxxx on your browser where x represents the number to be messaged and 91 country code(India). Then click on the green message icon and you will be forward to conversations for that number.

9. Hide your profile photo


If for some specific reason you want only your contacts to see your profile pic then you can do so.
You can also set profile pic to be visible by everyone or nobody.

Android and iOS: Settings > Account > Profile Photo > Choose from Everyone, My contact or nobody

10. Stop images and videos automatically saving in gallery


Your WhatsApp images and videos are automatically saved on your phone gallery or camera roll in iOS. You can choose to turn off them.

Android: Settings > Chats > Toggle off Show media in gallery
iOS: Settings > Chats > Toggle off Save to Camera Roll

11. See when others saw yours sent message


Normally when we see blue tick we know the message has been read. But if you want to know that when the message was actually read, you can also know about it.

Android: Chats > Specific Chat > Specific Message > Press and hold > Tap the "i" icon at the top
iOS: Chats > Specific Chat > Specific Message > Swipe up to left
